Why it matters

Brunelleschi cast this gilded bronze panel of the Sacrifice of Isaac for the famous 1401 competition for the Baptistery doors in Florence. Ghiberti won, and their two panels are the only ones to survive: a unique record of the shift from Gothic to Renaissance.
