Why it matters
Donatello gave this bronze roundel to his doctor, Giovanni Chellini, in 1456 in thanks for his treatment. Its hollow back could be used as a mould to cast copies in glass.

- Chellini recorded the gift in his account book on 27 August 1456.
- It shows the Virgin and Child with four angels.
