Why it matters

Wolf Vostell encased his own working Opel Kapitän in concrete in a parking space in Cologne, ironically turning 'stationary traffic' into sculpture. The 15-tonne work now stands on the central reservation of the Hohenzollernring.

Did you know?

  • It was made between 2 and 13 October 1969.
  • Vostell placed a parking meter next to the car.
