Why it matters
Sixteen-year-old Léon Leenhoff, son of Suzanne Leenhoff, stands with his back to the other figures in the dining room of Manet's rented house in Boulogne-sur-Mer. The work is acknowledged as 'brilliantly painted and a major Manet work'.
