Why it matters
Also known as Red Fuji, this woodblock print shows the mountain turned red by the rising sun on a clear early-autumn morning. It has been described as 'one of the simplest and at the same time one of the most outstanding of all Japanese prints'.
Did you know?
- It is part of the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, made around 1830–1832.
- The earliest impressions, known as Pink Fuji, are very rare.
- Unlike most of the series it names no location, so the viewpoint is a mystery.
