Why it matters

In 1909 winter came early near Neskuchnoye, with a lot of snow, but it was warm in the house, so Serebriakova began painting herself in the mirror with the small things from her dressing-table. At the insistence of her brother, Eugene Lanceray, she sent it to Saint Petersburg.
